Today we'll set up Google accounts, get familiar with the class website, and go over basic introductions for the Vocabulary Challenge and Outside Reading Challenge. We will go more in-depth with these further in the week. If you have any questions, feel free to leave a comment or contact Miss Humphrey.

Today, for some classes (1st and 7th), we'll have a short discussion about Standards-Based Grading. All other classes had this discussion Wednesday/Thursday. Students were given a letter to take home explaining the grading and why we're doing it. If you have any questions or concerns, don't hesitate to reach out!
For the remainder of our class, each student will set one SMART goal for our 1st quarter of English and one SMART goal focusing on one success skill. Their English goal must relate to our standards (or a standard) in some way, must be 1) specific, 2) measurable, 3) attainable, 4) relevant, and 5) time-based (1st quarter - by October 16th). We will begin to set up Google accounts first thing next week, so (parents) expect to see an email from your student by the end of next week informing you of what their main goal is this quarter.
Almost to the end of our second week, Timberwolves! Today, we're setting classroom expectations for our classroom community. These will be printed and posted in the room to serve as a reminder. The topics we discuss to set up our learning community rules are as follows:
Today and tomorrow, all classes will be taking a trip to the library to get familiar with the new way Mrs. Sterrett has organized the space. We'll also get information on how to access the Bentonville Public Library using the "BPL Tech Cards." This will be a very helpful tool, especially when we start needing to research!
Don't forget, if you haven't gotten your Tech. Policy document signed by a parent, you need to do so before the end of the week. Swing by the room and hand it in as soon as you get it signed! We all want to be on the laptops by next week (if not the end of this week)! We've had a really great first week of school so far! We've played a lot of games and started to build our learning communities. Today, we're writing letters to our future selves (to be opened at the end of the year). If you missed today or need to finish the letter and don't remember the directions, it's all included below. Have a fantastic weekend, Timberwolves!
