The best place to go for real, honest reviews on books you've read or have yet to read is Goodreads.com. It's also a fantastic place to keep track of the books you've read, are reading, or want to read. If you haven't created a free account with Goodreads, what are you waiting for?? Do it now! Overview of the Outside Reading Challenge
If the main character of a book could tell us one very important thing - a life lesson or something all of us could learn from or benefit from knowing - what would it be? Well, now you don't have to wonder.
Your challenge:
You have been tasked to create a Public Service Announcement. But this is not just ANY run-of-the-mill PSA. You must create a PSA that is 100% from the Point-of-View of a main character who will share an important lesson and will reference their own life experiences to help teach us the lesson.
First, you'll need to choose and read one text of your choice that will correlate with the thematic ideas we will be discussing through John Steinbeck's The Pearl and the Zombie Apocalypse Challenge.
The fictional or non-fictional text that you choose to read on your own (outside of class) must exhibit at least one of the following thematic ideas:
As a reminder, the book you choose cannot be a book you have already read! It must be a new book for you. Challenge yourself, learn new things, and experience a new world and new characters!
