If you're needing to access anything for the Bentonville Film Festival Challenge, all documents can be found in the BFF Challenge folder in your Google Drive. Click here to directly access the folder.
Pitching will occur next Monday and Tuesday, February 8th and 9th. Groups will find out the results later on in the week. Filming begins the next week (February 15th and on). Students who are not a part of the filming process will move on to create a small tutorial film for next year's students to help them be successful with this project next year. We will have a 2 1/2 week break in between projects starting March 3rd and will look into Poetry as an Art form (for a change of pace)! Spring Break will follow afterwards and we'll move on to 4th Quarter! Homework for the Break: READ ALL OF THE GIVER!When we get back from the break, we will be doing something a little bit different (but really cool). We will be partnering with Mrs. Goodman's classes and looking closely at The Giver over the course of only THREE days. This means that you absolutely HAVE to read the The Giver over the break in order to be ready for your job when we get back.
AUDIO BOOK: For those of you who would like to listen to The Giver WHILE reading at the same time, the audio link can be found here (you can listen on your phone). You can also download the mp3 files for each chapter (chapter 1 will be at the bottom). PDF OF THE BOOK (you can read it on your phone): http://catherinelucy.org/Documents/TeacherFiles/GiverFULLTEXT-1_11_20_2014_8_43_12_AM.pdf Google Form, Visit 5 Museums, & Complete Feedback Forms for Each:
Before you do ANYTHING today, you MUST complete the Google Form (many of you did not complete this)! Fill it in below and then read the remaining directions below the form. The link can also be found here if the form does not load below.
You have been given a handout to complete as you visit 5 different museums today. One of those museums CAN be over the same topic as your own, but you cannot visit your own museum to provide feedback. You must visit 5 different peers' museums.
Each group of tables is designated to the different disasters. On each table you will find a website list of the available museums to visit for that disaster topic. You may pick whichever you choose to provide feedback. When you are finished at that table, cut off that part of your feedback form, and place it on the table in the appropriate location. At the very end, you will go to your own museum LAST. After peer-reviewing 5 others' museums, now it's your turn to do your own. Complete your 6th visit and provide and HONEST reflection of how well your museum showed the necessary skills. Enjoy your trip to the Museums! As we move into the middle part of November and our holiday season, we have one more challenge to take on before our winter break: The Great Museum Exhibition Challenge.
On Monday and Tuesday, Mrs. Sterrett will be leading us through some of the amazing resources available to us. You MUST have an idea of your top 3 favorites (or, even better, your ONE favorite) in order to understand how these resources will help you as you build and create your online exhibit. We will also walk through the process in each class, together, for creating an online website using Weebly, so don't fret about this part just yet! This will be your last individual assignment before our winter break! Please consult the schedule below so you understand the due dates that are coming up. These will be addressed on Friday, October 9th. You will also be given a paper copy. No excuses for not knowing when things are due!
The Pearl Analysis and the Zombie NarrativeWe've officially started diving into The Pearl, analyzing each chapter and pulling out great examples that we might be able to learn from Steinbeck's writing and mimic it ourselves within our own Zombie narratives.
The first half of our class period consists of an analysis of a chapter in The Pearl. We are looking at one chapter at a time and syncing with each Zombie Apocalypse "Day." To see the analysis work that we are completing, click here. Each Bell-Ringer is labeled. The second half of our class period consists of our "Zombie Apocalypse" Scenarios. By the end of Day 6, your group members will have a chronologically sound Narrative piece, which will incorporate key writing and stylistic components that are reflective of narratives. After the entirety of the challenge is complete, your group members will take that narrative piece and manipulate it for film and visual appeal, creating your character's account (in film format) of their 6-day journey, the obstacles they faced (including realistic science-related situations), and the end result. Friday, October 30th, we will have a huge Film Festival in the Murry Room, giving all classes an opportunity to view their own and others' "Independent Films." 1) Vocabulary Assessment: Monday/Tuesday of next week - be ready to take the assessment!
2) Have The Pearl entirely read by Monday/Tuesday of next week (so we can begin discussions). For Today (Sept. 23 and 24): 1) Book Fair in the library the first half of class. 2) New groups for the Zombie Apocalypse Challenge (which will run through Friday, October 30th, just in time for Halloween)! Draw out of a hat for your character and the city they're located in. Day 1 of the challenge begins this next week, so be prepared!
