Travel Opportunity - Spring Break 2017
Dear Parents/Families,
Globalization is our current reality, and because of this, it is vital that students become more culturally aware. I’m pleased to announce that FJHS is again planning to take students and parents on a Spring Break educational tour in 2017. We will travel to Switzerland, Austria, and Germany during Spring Break 2017. The Fulbright 2016 Spring Break trip SOLD OUT for this year!! The upcoming informational meeting is for NEXT year’s spring break, and current, former, and upcoming FJHS students/families are encouraged to take advantage of this amazing opportunity. There is limited space on the trip and trips fill quickly. Again, the 2016 Spring Break Trip to Paris, Provence, and Barcelona sold out LAST SCHOOL YEAR.
In March of 2017, we will visit incredible places including Germany first Nazi concentration camp Dachau, Vienna’s Gothic St, Stephan’s Cathedral, Salzburg, the back drop of the Musical The Sound of Music, “Mad” King Ludwig’s fairy-tale castle of Neuschwanstein, and visit the majestic Alps on your tour of Lucerne, Switzerland. The flyer below provides a tentative itinerary for this trip as well as a code that you can enter on the EF site to view a detailed itinerary. Please use the Remind sign up (on the bottom right of the flyer) to receive updates regarding monthly costs. As of today, the trip payments are $184 monthly. EF Tours has been selected as the group tour company because of their reputation as the world leader in international education. This guarantees the lowest prices for the highest quality and also offers a monthly payment plan to make the trip more affordable. Lower pricing now and lower monthly payments for planning this far in advance are the main reasons we’re starting to plan now.
We will be hosting an enrollment meeting on Tuesday, September 8th at 6:00 p.m. in the Murry Room at FJHS. I hope you will come and learn more! If you are unable to attend but are interested, please email me and I’ll schedule a 1:1 consultation. Lastly, click here to view a beautiful slide show of the trip we'll be taking and some of the past travel groups!
Bon Voyage!

Letter to Parents: Standards-Based Grading
Parents, I have sent home a letter with your child concerning standards-based grading. I want to make sure we are all on the same page and that you understand WHY we're doing what we're doing in class. Please read the letter below, look over the standards-based grading scale (that a lot of current 8th grade teachers are using this year, including all of 8th grade English), and if you have any questions or concerns regarding our system, I would be willing to meet one-on-one to address any of your questions so you can better understand how this is greatly benefiting your child and your child's growth over the course of the year.
Looking forward to a great year of constant improvement and mastery of skills!
